In recent years it seems like everyone and their mother is wearing UGGs. Especially UGG classic tall chestnut are the most popular model. There are many other models such as Roxy UGGs, 30th anniversary UGGs, Chrystie UGG boots, Cardy, Crochet, etc etc etc. If there is a material you can imagine that UGGs will have a model for it. But are these uggs really imaginative or are we talking about applying different materials to the same old boot which is the original one from the early 2000s the Classic Tall Chestnut.
Are they really cool though? Well lets look at it from an Internet
Marketing perspective.
If you look at the Google Trends data:
Every year since 2004, the winter has brought more searches for UGGs for
UGG boots on google. The countries searching for UGG boots the most are
the UK, Ireland, United States, Australia, Canada, and Germany.
What about just searches for UGGs.
You see a similar trend, with every winter season bringing a large increase
in search volume.
And the top countries searching are Netherlands, United States, Norway,
Ireland, Canada, UK, Sweden, Germany.
It has been stated that UGGs are defying the current economic crisis.
People continue to purchase UGGs regardless of economic collapse in the
main markets of UGG boots.
It has been argued that Decker corporation, the company behind UGGs, has
argued that UGGs are not a trend and they have established themselves as a
recession proof staple. The trends would tend to support their beliefs as
sales of UGGs have continued strong despite the crisis. Perhaps shoppers
for UGGs dont feel guilty about the price tag because they consider these
boots as a necessity for the winter. But are they really? Absolutely not,
we lived many generations of winters without sheepskin boots. Also recent
studies indicate that UGGs are one of the worst things that you can wear
for your foot health.
“According to the Society of Chiropodists and Podiatrists, their flat soles leave the arches limp and can cause painful tendon conditions, such as a plantar fasciitis. The flimsy sheepskin casing makes a weak ankle cushion.”
But then again any popular footwear item for women is probably not good for your foot health. This is the same for high heels, stilettos, christian louboutin etc. If women only wore footwear that was good for foot health I am sure they would all be wearing birkenstock sandles. uugggh
I can understand suffering for fashion, but are UGGs really worth the suffering? I guess only time will tell if these things are a trend or here to stay.
